New Vegas House Project

The New Vegas House project was a customization of a dynamic Swish Flash template so that it could be used to show detail information about a new custom home for sale. The original template selected had built in support for displaying images of the home exterior and interior.

The client selected Template 13240 to use for the site. The original template is shown below:

 

Since this template was a dynamic template, the Flash movie reads much of the information from an external file. Reading information from an external file is the best method for sites built on Flash because the client can change content simply by editing simple text files.

The template did have some issues, however. One issue is that the original template was programmed for extracting titles from two different variables. The left variable was green and the right variable was white. In addition, both the left and the right variable was fixed at a very short length. It would have been more flexible to create a single title variable with more width and use separate spans to format the left and right part of the titles. This approach would allow one long title to be used if needed, which is what was asked for but required too much programming.

Another issue with this template was that the index of images allowed for 4 pages of thumbnails but was only programmed for the first page. Customized coding was completed to allow for the display of more images but wasn't implemented due to time constraints.

A third issue with this template was that the external file for listing the images to display was way too complex and time consuming to get the images and the thumbnails synchronized.

Lastly, this was a Swish Flash template and required the Swish application to update the coding rather than the standard Flash application.
